Safety Coordinator – VA

McLean Contracting Company is looking to hire a Safety Coordinator to join our team in the Chesapeake, VA area.

A Safety Coordinator performs a variety of routine administrative, technical and professional work in analyzing and administering various components of the environmental, health and safety programs.

Performs jobsite inspections and monitors compliance of Company employees and subcontractors with all safety rules and regulations and prepares reports.

Assists with accident investigations as needed. Provides first aid to an injured person and/or transports/directs them to the proper medical facility.

Communicates all known post-accident facts and collaborates with Safety Director and Claims Manager to monitor compliance and identify issues.

Promptly communicates post-accident recommendations to all concerned parties and ensures corrective action is taken to prevent future accidents.

Conducts safety and environmental meetings, provides technical safety and health support for jobsite employees/supervisors and projects.

Coordinates and conducts work area assessments/surveys to determine the presence of hazardous conditions.

Possesses knowledge of hazardous condition elimination by recommending engineering controls, administrative controls and/or personal protective equipment, etc.

Immediately stops any discovered imminent dangers violations. Takes immediate corrective action, or as soon as practical, of all safety violations.

Shuts down any operation or jobsite not adhering to good safety practices that are of an imminent danger type or when there are repetitive violations until the unsafe practice has been eliminated.

Issues Written Warnings and/or Reprimand Reports for unsafe work practices in coordination with the Human Resources Manager while maintaining the utmost confidentiality in dealing with employee’s records and business information.

Education and/or Experience

 

This position requires working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and local environmental, health and safety laws as well as the company’s own safety policies/procedures and customer’s specific safety standards. High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

1-3 years of safety education, or 3-5 years of construction experience required.

Other Skills and Abilities

 

Must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation to work and able to pass a physical. Must be able to pass a Homeland Security background check to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
