Bridges, Design BuildExpress Design Build Year 2 Division One Replace 8 Low Impact Bridges
Owner : North Carolina Department of Transportation
Location : Edenton, NC

This NCDOT Design Build contract was for the replacement of 2 low impact bridges in Pasquotank County and 6 low impact bridges in Perquimans County. These bridges varied in length from 45’ to 130’. The bridges were founded on concrete and steel pilings with cored slab superstructures. Each bridge replacement had to be administered similar to separate individual contracts with unique utility relocations and right-of-way acquisitions. Each bridge replacement was constrained by intermediate contract times (ICT’s) that only allowed a fix number of days for each road closure. The bridges were constructed over streams and around protected wetlands which meant in-stream work moratoriums. The road closures were also constrained by a farm equipment moratorium that wouldn’t allow road closures during a peak time of year for farm equipment activity.
