This project located on the Little Creek Amphibious Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia. This project was administrated by NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic.
The project included mechanical dredging of contaminated and uncontaminated material using an environmental bucket. The base bid included the dredging of uncontaminated materials in Areas A, B and C in Teen Piers 17 to 19 for the Base Bid to an elevation of -24 feet below Mean Lower Low Water. Bid Option No. 1 included the dredging of contaminated materials in Cells 1 to 16 around Pier 10 at the marina to depths that vary from -6 feet to -23.2 feet below MLLW and the dredging of contaminated materials in Cells 17 to 20 in Desert Cove to depths that vary from -13 feet to -15 feet below MLLW. Dredge materials were placed in barges, dewatered and transported to the Port Weanack Dredge Material Handling Facility. Once at Weanack the barges were mixed with a drying agent to solidify sufficiently to be loaded into on-road trucks. The amending process was performed by a subcontractor whose scope included offloading of amended materials from barges into trucks and transporting for disposal to Charles City Landfill in Charles City County, Virginia.
