McLean Contracting Company entered the bulk materials handling construction market on a large scale with the completion of the Massey Coal Terminal in Newport News, Virginia. Massey Coal Terminal loaded the first ship through its new $125 million facility on December 16, 1982, 15 ½ months after McLean moved onsite. McLean Contracting Company was general contractor for the four major divisions of the project:
1. Landside Civil
2. Reclaim and Escape Tunnels
3. Waterside Civil
4. Structural and Mechanical Erection
