McLean Contracting Company performed the superstructure replacement on the 1,572 ft., 28 span Riva Road Bridge.
New spans were fabricated in McLean’s Baltimore Yard and barged to the jobsite. Spans were changed out during night time bridge closures. Existing water and sanitary lines were supported on temporary falsework to allow them to remain in service.
Bridge closures were allowed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., 8 hours. Maximum production removed and replaced three (3) spans in one nine-hour period. During the closure, the existing anchor bolts and masonry beam seats were removed and replaced. Once the polymer concrete had strength, the new spans could be set.
