Bridges, Design BuildPerquimans River Swing Span Bridge Replacement
Owner : North Carolina Department of Transportation
Location : Hertford, NC

This challenging design-build project is for the design and construction services to replace the existing 88-year old historical swing span bridge on the Perquimans River with a new truss swing span bridge that preserves the historical heritage of the existing structure. The project also replaces a deteriorating existing earthen causeway with a fixed span structure. The new bridge will be 2688 feet long which includes a 196-foot steel through truss swing span structure. This project includes realigning and widening US17 Business from south of the Perquimans River Bridge to north of the US17/NC37 intersection. McLean Contracting Company strategically assembled a team of experts, including RK&K and Hardesty & Hanover, Branch Civil, Steward Machine and EHM to bring together an impressive team to complete this challenging project.  This project was completed in October 2023 and was chosen to receive a CAGC Construction Excellence Award in 2024.
