McLean Contracting was a major subcontractor on this project subcontracted to construct the entire lower deck of a double decker destroyer pier along with the associated bulkhead and relieving platform for the US Navy for this project located on the Norfolk Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia. The project’s scope of work included the demolition of two existing 1700-foot long by 170-foot wide piers and the construction of a new 1500-foot long by 90-foot concrete pier and 625 feet of new concrete sheet pile bulkhead and relieving platform. The pier design featured 36-inch concrete cylinder piles with precast prestressed pile caps, prestressed deck panels, precast fascia beams and precast edge caps. The relieving platform’s design featured concrete sheet pile, 18-inch concrete piles, precast pile caps, prestressed deck panels and cast-in-place bulkhead cap.
