This NCDOT project featured the construction of 3,000 feet of bridge over environmentally sensitive salt marsh lands and the Thorofare Bay Channel. Access was limited and controlling impacts to the surrounding marsh lands were critical on this award-winning project. The bridge’s design featured 24-inch square concrete piles with low water caps, columns and pier caps. The superstructure featured concrete girders and a cast-in-place deck.
