McLean Contracting Company utilizes components of Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) to drive its safety and health program. By prioritizing leading indicators, the company effectively reduces lagging metrics through the following core initiatives:
- BOSS Cards (BBS): Team members regularly complete "Behavioral Observation Safety System" cards to document safe and unsafe acts, facilitating real-time coaching and peer-to-peer accountability.
- 'Boots on the Ground' Walks: Management teams conduct site walkthroughs alongside the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team to maintain direct field engagement.
- After Action Reviews: For near misses or incidents Potential Serious Injury and Fatality (PSIF) potential, the EHS team facilitates a meeting with the project team, craft workers, and management to identify root causes and improve means and methods
- EHS Advisory Group: Serving as the safety committee, this monthly group includes craft workers from all divisions, superintendents, and project managers to set agendas and direct EHS efforts.
- $afety Dollar$ Incentive Program: Workers earn digital currency for participating in all components of the safety programs, which can be redeemed for tools, electronics, and company merchandise
